Colton is a small village in Staffordshire, a mile North of Rugeley. It boasts a long and vibrant history, with many people, traditions and buildings of historic merit. The web site has been created to share the work of the group with the villagers and with anyone else who has an interest in the area.
Friends of Staffordshire & Stoke on Trent Archive Service (FoSSA) was founded in 2003 with the aim of bringing together the many different kinds of users of the Archive Service.
The Society offers a warm welcome to family, local and national historians as well as to those of us who simply want to find out more about the county's past. Our members are individuals or organisations who appreciate the role of the Archive Service in preserving our history, have benefited from its facilities and wish to support its wor in the future.

Staffordshire Archeological & Historical Society
Dedicated to the study and preservation of antiquities across the county of Staffordshire.
Staffordshire Heritage Group is an Umbrella organisation for local groups and societies interested in various aspects of our local Heritage. It publishes a combined diary of events. It meets regularly to exchange ideas and information and sponsors joint events which are normally beyond the individual groups, such as lectures, seminars and visits.
Staffordshire Historic Churches
A group of enthusiasts compiling information on all of Staffordshire’s historic churches. They also put out regular news articles on the world of historic churches.
This is a large and developing site devoted to Staffordshire's history (i.e. pre-1888 boundaries). It is not only an important reference and information resource for researchers, both professional and amateur, but is also now the home of the new Staffordshire History Association, whose aim is to encourage Local History groups throughout the old historic county and to publicise their activities, meetings and achievements. Hopefully, it will also increase individual group's membership and thereby encourage more people to study, learn and carry out research into Staffordshire's long and exciting history.

is an online catalogue containing descriptions of the holdings of: Staffordshire Record Office; Stoke on Trent City Archives; William Salt Library; StaffordStaffordshire County Museum.
N.B. Lichfield Record Office has been closed and the majority of contents transferred to Stafford Record Office
One of the UKBMD free BMD websites. This site is ongoing but could help you locate birth, marriage and death certificates from within the county. Good coverage of Cannock area marriages and some Rugeley deaths. There is also a West Midlands BMD site (see UKBMD for links to this site and others).
